Both dates are correct because the match crosses midnight while travelling east through the time zones. Australian search results that say the season starts on 22 August are describing the local viewing date, while the Premier League's 21 August date is the local date in London.

Why the season begins one week later than usual

The Premier League says the delayed start creates 89 clear days from the end of the 2025/26 league season and 33 days from the expanded FIFA World Cup final on 19 July. The adjustment is intended to give players and clubs more recovery and preparation time after the 48-team tournament.

The later opening does not shorten the competition. Each of the 20 clubs still plays the other 19 once at home and once away, producing 380 matches over 38 match rounds. The final round is scheduled for Sunday, 30 May 2027.

Friday night's Arsenal opener is an early Australian alarm

Sunday's English programme finishes early Monday for eastern Australia

Brighton & Hove Albion v Aston Villa and Manchester City v AFC Bournemouth both start at 2 pm BST on Sunday, 23 August. That is 11 pm AEST, 10.30 pm ACST and 9 pm AWST on Sunday.

Newcastle United v Liverpool starts at 4.30 pm BST. Australian kick-off is 1.30 am AEST and 1 am ACST on Monday, 24 August, or 11.30 pm AWST on Sunday. The different local dates are another reason to check the time zone attached to any fixture graphic.

Fulham and Chelsea close the round on Tuesday morning in Australia

The opening match round concludes with Fulham v Chelsea at 8 pm BST on Monday, 24 August. That is 5 am AEST, 4.30 am ACST and 3 am AWST on Tuesday, 25 August.

A Monday-night match in England regularly appears as a Tuesday-morning event in Australia. Calendar reminders should use the Australian date, not merely copy the UK date and change the hour.

The relationship changes when clocks move later in the year, and not every Australian state observes daylight saving. The safest method is to use Stan's local schedule or the Premier League's syncing calendar rather than adding nine hours to every fixture until May.

For the opening round, save the local Australian times above and check the streaming schedule again during match week. For later rounds, treat the published opponent and match round as the planning anchor, then wait for broadcast confirmation before booking non-refundable travel or organising an overnight watch party.

The Premier League also offers a digital calendar that updates when matches are rescheduled. That is more reliable than a screenshot saved on fixture-release day, because a screenshot cannot follow television selections, cup progress or a new kick-off time.
