It does not list PlayStation 4, Xbox One or the original Nintendo Switch, so buyers should not assume the platform list is the same as NBA 2K26.
A second date appears on store pages because the Deluxe and Ultra editions include early access. That window begins at 9:00 AM Pacific Time on August 28, with regional and time-zone differences possible. It is described as up to seven days of early access, not a separate general release date for every edition.
Caitlin Clark is on the Deluxe Edition, not the Standard Edition
The three athletes are tied to three different products. Victor Wembanyama appears on the $69.99 US Standard Edition. Caitlin Clark fronts the $99.99 US Deluxe Edition. Derrick Rose appears on the $149.99 US Ultra Edition, which 2K says will only be available through September 6, 2026.
That distinction matters when a retailer thumbnail shows one athlete but the cart contains another edition. A Caitlin Clark cover identifies the Deluxe package and its added digital content. It does not mean Clark is replacing Wembanyama on every copy, and Rose's Ultra cover does not identify the base game.
Clark's cover is a first, but the wording matters
Clark described the milestone as becoming the first WNBA player on her own global NBA 2K cover. That is more precise than calling her the first woman ever to appear on the game. Candace Parker became the franchise's first female cover athlete on the NBA 2K22 WNBA 25th Anniversary Special Edition, which was a GameStop exclusive in the United States and Canada.

Those extras are valuable only to somebody who expects to use those modes. A player interested mainly in local Play Now, an offline franchise or The W should not treat 100,000 VC as cash returned. It is in-game currency attached to the product, while the Standard Edition still contains the base NBA 2K27 game.
Ultra costs more because it stacks passes, VC and future cards
Ultra includes everything in Deluxe, then adds 35,000 VC for a total of 135,000 VC, a Season 1 Pro Pass, Pro Passes for Seasons 7 through 9 scheduled for summer 2027, a Roses Oversize Hoodie for MyCAREER and premium MyTEAM cards planned for later release. 2K says one card is scheduled for December 2026 and another for May 2027.
The Ultra Edition is digital, limited to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and listed for sale only through September 6. Existing NBA 2K26 owners may see a 10 percent Ultra preorder discount on the same platform through September 3, but availability restrictions apply. Buyers should verify the price shown by their own platform account before relying on the headline US saving.
Australian PS5 prices are not simple US-dollar conversions
The Australian PlayStation Store listed the PS5 Standard Edition at A$119.95, Deluxe at A$159.95 and Ultra at A$239.95 when checked on July 24. The same page says preorder payment is taken immediately. Other platforms, retailers and regions can set different actual prices even though 2K's announcement gives suggested US retail prices.
For an Australian buyer, the meaningful upgrade cost on that PS5 listing is A$40 from Standard to Deluxe and another A$80 from Deluxe to Ultra. That comparison is clearer than converting the US prices, because it uses the store where the purchase would actually happen. Recheck the live listing before paying in case availability, tax treatment or promotions change.
The August 17 deadline is about preorder bonuses
2K says the announced preorder offer is available until 10:00 AM Pacific Time on August 17. The Australian PlayStation listing names bonuses for both NBA 2K26 and NBA 2K27, including VC and MyTEAM or MyCAREER items. Some of the NBA 2K26 content requires owning that earlier base game.
The deadline should not be confused with early access or the Ultra sale window. August 17 is the published preorder-bonus cutoff, August 28 begins early access for eligible Deluxe and Ultra owners, September 3 is the stated end of the same-platform Ultra loyalty discount, September 4 is worldwide launch and September 6 ends the Ultra Edition's limited availability.
Not every mode is fully offline
The Australian PS5 page says Play Now, MyNBA and The W are available offline. It says all other game modes and features require an internet connection, may require online account registration and may not always be available to every user. Console online play also requires the relevant paid platform subscription.
That makes the edition decision partly about how the game will be used. A household focused on offline basketball may get little from online packs or multiplayer bonuses. A MyTEAM or online MyCAREER player should include internet access, an NBA 2K account and any console subscription in the real cost of playing.
The Australian and US ratings describe different systems
2K's US announcement says NBA 2K27 is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB. The Australian PlayStation listing displays an ACB M rating with descriptors for chance-based in-game purchases, gambling themes, online interactivity and chat. These are not contradictory labels because national ratings systems use different categories and descriptors.
Parents should use the rating and purchase information displayed in their own region. The Australian page also flags optional in-game purchases. An edition's upfront price is therefore not necessarily the maximum somebody could spend after launch, especially in modes built around virtual currency, packs or paid season passes.
The gameplay trailer is still the next evidence point
2K scheduled the first official gameplay trailer for July 28. Store copy already mentions ProPLAY, enhanced shooting, MyCAREER, MyTEAM and The City, but a short feature description is not enough to judge every animation, mode change or improvement against NBA 2K26.
Claims about a complete gameplay overhaul, crossplay details or platform-specific compromises should wait for the trailer and later technical notes. The facts that can be checked now are the release dates, named platforms, covers, edition contents, regional store listings and published account requirements.
Which NBA 2K27 edition makes sense?
Choose Standard if the base game and September 4 launch are enough, or if Nintendo Switch 2 is the platform. Consider Deluxe if August 28 access, 100,000 VC and the listed MyCAREER and MyTEAM extras are worth the additional local price. Consider Ultra only if the extra 35,000 VC, passes and scheduled premium content will actually be used.
The cover athlete can be part of the appeal, but the purchase should follow the platform and content. Clark's Deluxe cover is a genuine global milestone. It is still better to choose it because the Deluxe package fits the way the game will be played, not because a social post made the athlete look like the only available cover.
